The Blog

I’m waiting for my math class as I write this. The last few months have seen a strange anti-socal sentiment grow in me. Yes, I mean so-cal, not social. I’m social enough. I belong to no less than 3 social networks, and now that I have a G1 I actually use them…
I’ve been riding my bike to class, only one car now. And I like it. Not crazy about being passed by hummers or lifted trucks, which are apparently issued by the state, since every 18-25 year old male has one here. Maybe its fun getting 8 miles to the gallon, but there’s a bigger sense of satisfaction I get from not buying gas. It’s not that I love the world and it’s climate, it’s just that I don’t like the middle east.
P.S. jesynaime.com is live! Check it out!

Well folks, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out I’ve been busy with things other than this site for a while. I’ve been working on Penguin’s site: www.jesynaime.com and I’ve been kicking around the idea for a personal portfolio and design site of my own. As well as a few freelance projects in the works.
Though I’ve stopped updating the smoking cessation video blog, I remain committed to the cause. I’d be lying if I told you I haven’t fallen off the wagon a few times, but no great plan of attack survives first contact. So I’ll continue abstaining from cigarettes, even if I don’t update here.
In fact, I’m not sure I’ll be updating much of anything here in the near future. But that doesn’t mean I won’t stay busy. So check back. Not today, maybe not even tomorrow, but we’ll be up and running smoothly again in no time.
And a special Thanks! to everyone to commented or sent encouragement on That’s it. I quit. I wouldn’t have wanted to do it without the support. Thank you.

Ok, so maybe not, but things aren’t the sunniest they’ve ever been. The American economy is in recession. Even the rich are cutting back. I guess for the same reason they’re driving hybrid cars and drinking bottled water… never mind that unlike the general population, they don’t NEED to shop at the dollar store.
It’s funny how topsy-turvy things have become. Ford will gladly charge you $600 to take out your engine and change a spark plug they’ve cleverly hidden (so you’d HAVE to take it in and get gouged having it fixed.). But when abusing and ignoring their needs for more fuel efficient vehicle doesn’t cover their their bonuses at the end of the year, they act like it’s our responsibility to keep them afloat.
Now, I live in LA, but I know this isn’t the only place small businesses are going under. It’s happening everywhere. But why aren’t those business asking for money from congress? And why does anyone think it’s the government’s responsibility to save any company? More execs from Detroit are going to try and bully us into saving their ass again today. “We’re too big to go under! You have no choice!” they’ll say. Some are even driving to Washington. I guess it’s hard to rob a country when you can’t take weapons on a plane?

I found this story on MSNBC, just thought it was kind of funny. And somewhat relevant.
Panda bites student who just wanted a hug
Actually, it remnds me of the story about the woman and the snake. No, not the biblical story, this one:
One cold winter day, a woman is outside her home gathering firewood. As she’s picking up branches, she sees a snake, frozen in the snow. The kind woman picks the snake up and brings it inside. Warming his cold blood and nursing it back to health.
One day, as she’s tending to her home, the snake lashes out and bites her on the cheek. And soon, the snake’s powerful venom is coursing through her veins.
As she lay on the floor, frightened and dying, she pleads with the snake “When you were ill, I took you in. I fed you and gave you water. With one bite you’ve killed me. Why have you done this?”
And the snake turned and hissed “Bitch, you knew I was a snake.”

I just filled up my tank the other day and to my surprise when the pump finished, it didn’t even hurt! I know it’s been all over the news, and even if you don’t watch, it’s impossible to not notice how gasoline prices have dropped sharply since the end of the summer. Now, if this were last year, or the year before. Hell, if it was 1999 that wouldn’t be much to write about. However our country now is in a recession and everywhere you look, there are signs that times is hard. It’s not a secret and it’s not just hard for some… or is it?
Records of Highest Quarterly Profit by an American Corporation in US History
Exxon Mobil : July - Sept 2008: $14.83 billion
Exxon Mobil : April – June 2008: $11.68 billion
Exxon Mobil : Oct – Dec 2007: $11.66 billion
Exxon Mobil : Oct – Dec 2005: $10.71 billion
Exxon Mobil : July – Sept 2005: $9.92 billion
R.D. Shell : July – Sept 2005: $9.03 billion
Exxon Mobil : Oct – Dec 2004: $8.42 billion
So, a private corporation controlling the single resource that makes everything in our society possible, raking in more money than anyone else… ever, during the worst economic times since the Great Depression, strikes me as odd. Who really controls the economy? When a few companies, and a few countries “that don’t like us very much”, wield such power we call it capitalism. How starving do we have to be before “spreading the wealth” doesn’t sound too communist?
